James E. Miller

Senior Counsel

Biography

James E. Miller is an experienced litigator. His main practice area is in employment law where he has worked cases involving wage issues (to include overtime and minimum wage), discrimination, harassment, retaliation, reasonable accommodations, medical leave, and whistleblower protections.  He has represented clients in a wide array of industries.  His litigation experience includes DC Superior Court; various courts in Maryland; Federal Courts in Maryland, DC, and throughout the US; arbitration; and work before administrative agencies including the Merit Systems Protection Board (MSPB), the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), the Fair Labor Relations Authority (FLRA) and the Department of Labor.

Prior to becoming a lawyer, James was an Officer of the United States Coast Guard.  He worked aboard polar icebreakers out of Seattle and then as a project manager in Boston.  After leaving the Coast Guard, James graduated cum laude from the University of Maryland Carey School of Law.  While at law school he was an Articles Editor for the University of Maryland Law Journal of Race, Religion, Gender, and Class and was in the Consumer Protection Clinic.   After law school, James worked as a law clerk for The Honorable V. Michael Whelan in the Cecil County Circuit Court and later at a firm litigating personal injury cases.

Over the last few years, James has found his calling working as an employment lawyer.  Initially, James worked in a DC area law firm out of Silver Spring where he primarily represented employees who had been wronged by their employers in pre-litigation settlement and litigation.  Most recently, James worked as an employment lawyer for the Army where he advised the Army on employment related matters and represented the Agency in litigation at the MSPB, EEOC, and FLRA.  Having missed doing work to help wronged employees, James was ecstatic to come work for Eric Siegel Law in the spring of 2024.  James zealously represents his clients and works toward the best outcome in their interest.

James is a Maryland native and has lived in various places throughout central Maryland.  James spends most of his free time with his wife and son, but also tries to spend time in the great outdoors when possible.
