So at will employment means you can be fired for any reason or no reason. It just cannot be a an unlawful reason, like discrimination, for example. The question is, can you be fired for anything? Well, the answer is no. So you have protections from being fired, for example, for a discriminatory reason. You have protections from being fired for reporting fraud or ille illegal activity, or for refusing to participate in illegal activity. You have protections from being fired to prevent you from investing employee benefits such as stock options.

So there are various statutes and laws that protect you as an employee, even as an owl employee. So that, provided that the employer treats you with dignity and, um, does not terminate your employment for an unlawful reason, you have rights to make sure that that does not happen. Um, I would encourage you, if you are terminated, to think about what the reasons were for that termination. And if you believe that it’s an unlawful reason, then you should consult with a lawyer, and Eric Seagull Law would be happy to meet with you and to assess what your rights are to determine how we might be able to assist you in vindicating your rights.
